I thought the food and service was excellent! They even went out of their way for my birthday. I overheard a lady next to me complain about a Med steak bc she ordered med rare and they took care of it immediately and even offered to send her husbands food back so he wasn't eating while she waited.

Best steak in Florida! Went here since we stayed really close by and got so happily surprised! I ate the NYC Angus steak and it was AMAZING!! All entres comes with the also amazing salads buffe. The service was excellent and everything went smooth even though it was really crowded..

The food was good. But to spend the amount we did for Red Lobster quality food in south Florida was really disappointing. The salad bar was nice. The chicken with grilled pineapple was good. The crab legs were ridiculous, and they did not give me a tool to break it up. But "meh, I've experienced better" gets you two stars. I'll skip next time I am down there. BONUS: Key lime pie was great and not too tart.

The salad bar is great and a lot vegetables, fruit and sauces to choose from. You will get it with a main course. The scallops were OK with cajun style taste. The scampis were delecious. The decoration is a bit old fashioned. The staff is friendly but pushing to give a tip.

My family and I have been coming here for years. Don't let the dark and drab decor fool you, the food is consistently good. I was just there 2 nights ago and ordered the Alaskan King Crab and it was meaty, sweet and delicious. Service is great and the food even better.

Dinner- ok they have a salad bar... But OMG who knew it would make me so happy!!! Petite filet, medium rare- perfectly cooked. No fries but they have TOTS!!! Good bread- not thrilled about the butter packets but the bread (for Florida) was quite yum. Back to the salad bar- all super fresh and just how I wanted to start my meal. This is my second visit and I'll likely be back next time (it's walkable from my friend's place).

Charley's Boathouse grill is a quick serviced restaurant. With good food the restroom is very sanitized and place is very clean. The waitress is very nice and so were the people their.

So bad. When dining in Ft. Meyers, we fully expected freshness. What we got was frozen and doused in butter. The comparison to a Ponderosa was made more than once. Let's start with drinks. The pineapple margarita sounded nice and refreshing, until it was served weak and garnished with canned pineapple chunks. Canned?!?! Seriously? I just bought a real pineapple an Publix this morning - they can't do the same? Up to the salad bar...the fact that they even had one should have been our cue to run. Vegetarians beware - they take no caution when organizing their items. Bacon chunks filled the cheese and veggie bins that surrounded the bacon bin itself. My husband got the clam chowder and said it was good. I tasted it and it was tasted like Campbell's from the can. Now on to dinner....My scallops were obviously frozen and loaded with butter. My mahi mahi, even though it was listed as "in season" tasted as though it had been frozen - they even served THAT with a side of melted butter (WHY?!) And our baked potatoes - I'm not even joking - were each served with half a stick of butter in them. Yuck, yuck, and yuck. If you're hoping for fresh seafood, better look elsewhere. If you're looking for overpriced frozen food passed off as fresh and hidden in butter, this is the place for you. An extra start for the service, which was very good.

Gone downhill from past years. Salad bar looks big but limited and tasteless selection. Over priced for the quality. Servers make you feel rushed. Better choices close by

My husband ordered broiled scallops. His first bites smelled and tasted of ammonia, which is a sign of seafood that has gone bad. (He was lucky to have not ordered them blackened or in scampi as he may not have noticed they were bad if covered in heavy spices.) He sent them back and ordered a sirloin, cooked medium. It came out very, very, very rare so he ate the cooked edges. I had blackened shrimp and rice pilaf. I received five shrimp and yellow rice. $20 is high for five small shrimp and a tiny fruit bowl of rice in the off-season. We paid our bill and left. The waitstaff was nice, but the manager made no effort to even ask us about the bad seafood. We will not be back.

Woohoo! As good as it gets! The place was across the street where we staid. I was looking for something low key, fast and good quality. It was pleasantly surprised wight the restaurant. To me convenience is the key. The food was clean. It was fresh. The place did not have too many people, just enough. There was window sitting available. There was a water view. I still cannot get used to the dirty waters of South West Florida, yet..again it was water. The server was very professional, fast and my favorite type of server. Her name was Toni. She did not waste my making small non sense talk, nor did she have a fake smile. She was great! Took the order, offered some options, left and came back my my order fast! It taste great! At the end she gave up a biz card where we can get 10% discount next time we there. All was great! I will go there again and direct all my guest who are staying at our vacation rentals across the street! Thank you Toni, Ella

Loved it! Awesome food, friendly staff, They treated our party of 8 very well midweek with a reservation. Their shrimp and scallop scampie with crab stuffing was amazing! The carpet and lighting was dark, and decor was dated, but it very retro/old school/raditional. I liked the canal views. Very old Florida. Will definitely be back!

Across the beach from Carousel Inn, stop by for supper. Fresh seafood, tasty steaks and a salad bar with everything! Try the escargot for appetizer. You won't be disappointed. Fine dining with casual beach attire! A must eat when visiting the area.

  • Tema W.

Incredibly disappointed...a restaurant that tries to be upscale on the beach should ONLY serve quality fresh seafood. The 'crab' stuffed flounder had clearly processed Krab in it. Gross. No beach view, don't waste your money.

We went here because it was across from our hotel and they gave us a coupon. We were seated right away and the service from Chad was very friendly (and he gave us another coupon for a return visit). The salad bar is huge and they will prepare most items either grilled or fried. Many items also could be ordered in a half or whole size. I had the grilled grouper with a baked sweet potato and it was tasty. Another advantage is the location away from Times Square. The night after we were here we tried to take a trolley to Times Square and the traffic was so bad that we got off the trolley and headed back south.

Just completed a terrific meal at Charley's. Each main course was excellent and the salad bar was wonderful. The best restaurant we have found on Ft Myers Beach without doubt.

If your looking for a salad bar this is the place to go. Lots of items and dressings you could easily make it your meal. There is a soup( home made clam chowder is good) and salad combo if you don't want a full entree. The ground sirloin is ground in house and is huge. Seafood is good and fresh. Not your new and upscale hotspot. A little worn and dated but solid food. Lots of old timers here.

We have eaten here dozens of times over the past 30 years. Always good food, good service, and the best salad bar in the area. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in fresh, chef prepared seafood or steaks. It is worth every penny. We can't wait for our next trip.

Busy place! We read good reviews so decided to try it. I'm not a salad bar fan, but my hubby is. We went around 6 on a Wednesday and the salad bar was abundant, fresh and had a lot of variety. The bloody mary is delish! He had a margarita which was also very good. The bread is worth the trip, great service and get a table by the window in the back for a super canal (?) view. Blackened shrimp for me -- 1/2 portion had like 5 or 6 pieces which was perfect, along with a side dish choice. He had the conch chowder which was tomato based and very good. Overall, we'll be back!

Knowing I was planning to watch the sunset with my someone special, I suggested Charley's because I've dined there before and the salad bar and Grouper I had the first visit was really great. The window seats right on the water make for a nice ambience. I was ready for a nice quiet dinner to finish out the day, this DID NOT happen! First, we went in a put our names down for a "call-ahead" reservation and asked for a seat by the window, we didn't mind waiting as we planned to watch the sunset across the street before dinner. When we came back in we did indeed get a seat by the window but we were sat in a back room with 2 tables that had babies (under the age of 1). Personally, I don't think it was a smart move putting a couple without young children at a table between 2 fussy children, not everyone thinks babies yelling and banging on tables is cute. The back room was also quite warmer than the front of the restaurant. We asked the server if it was possible to turn the air down a bit, they said sure. It did end up a bit more comfortable after 15 minutes or so. I ordered the Surf and Turf with the Filet and was able to substitute Snow Crab Legs for the Lobster. My someone special ordered the 16 oz Prime Rib with rice. The salad bar came with both entrees, that was the highlight of this dining experience. I ordered my Filet Medium and when it arrived, the plate was covered with blood. I attempted to let it "rest" while I prepared the baked potato. When I cut into it it was very rare! I was terribly disappointed considering it was a $40 plate. I was asked by Chad (server, that was training Eric) if everything was cooked to my preference, I told him the Filet was quite undercooked. He asked if I wanted [them] to set it back on the grill for a few minutes. One cardinal rule I have is, once my plate is delivered to my table, I DO NOT send it back to the kitchen. I prefer to have it cooked right the first time. I decided I would just eat the Surf portion of my meal and the bread. I was disappointed that Chad did not offer to send a manager to our table. While eating the crab-legs I overheard the table next to me order the Filet (medium) and they were offered to have theirs butterflied. I was a little perturbed at this offering after all I was offered was an "I'm sorry" that mine was undercooked. The Prime Rib was good according to my someone special, but the rice tasted like it was from a box. Since I was contending with fussy babies that wouldn't be taken outside, we decided to just get to-go boxes and bring it home and "fix" it myself. When the check came I again told Chad it was too bad that a great cut of meat would have to be fixed at home. I also told him if I had known the cooks weren't aware of how to properly prepare a Filet I would have liked the option to have it butterflied. All-in-all I was GREATLY disappointed in the entire dining experience...still NO offer for a member of Management to come to my table. This is a terrible example of Customer Service and Food Preparation. I don't ever mind spending money on a great meal, but if it's sub-par I think the Management should know about it. Lesson learned. If you want a $14 salad bar this is your place...other than that, keep looking. I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends or family.

Nice little restaurant. We went on a weekend and only waited maybe 10 minutes for a table. Our waitress was very attentive. I had the crab legs and they were done to perfection. They also have a really nice salad bar with many options. My husband had a steak and really liked his meal too. The prices were reasonable especially with the salad bar. The decor was pretty outdated but overall a pleasant experience. I'll go back.

Positives: they seated us fast (party of six) and the service was good. Negatives: food seemed over priced and tasted just ok compared to other seafood restaurants in the area. Unfortunately I can't say we will be back.

Moderately high prices but you get what you pay for. The food was excellent and included the salad bar, which was a meal in itself. The staff was fantastic. The hostesses were friendly and our waitress was both pleasant and humorous. I highly recommend Charley's to anyone visiting Fort Myers Beach

Just one thing! Go there! Nice food with a big salad bar and really good main courses. No fried junk-food for anybody including kids meals. Our little boy loved the BBQ-Spare-Rips for kids. No french fries - potatoes, rice and a big choice of salads are included in every meal! Service was outstanding friendly. We went there twise and we can highly recommend this place. Just GO!

This restaurant looked like it might be pretty good, so we decided to try it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge, expensive disapointment. To begin with, the waiter shouldn't be in this profession. His manner was brusque which made any interaction with him an unpleasant experience. So, bad start, but we were looking forward to a great meal and just chose to ignore his attitude. They have a salad bar, which is pretty good. It wasn't quite the incredible salad bar they claim that it is, but it was good enough. The entrees however were disappointing. I got the grouper which I have been ordering at different establishments all week and have been very happy.. This grouper dinner cost the most and did not compare to any of the others. It was dry, tasteless and overcooked. My husband got the prime rib. It was mediocre at best. At the end of the meal we felt full, but very unsatisfied. We will not be returning.

Recently dined at Charley's and had a great experience. Our server Chad gave us his card and a 10% off on our next visit. Our last night at the beach we decided to go with the sure thing, expecting it to be as good as before. The wait was a little longer but drinks are served and it's fine to sit around and chat before dining. Our waiter, who we don't remember giving us his name, was a little abrupt and not the friendliest but we were there for the food so everything was fine until the bill came. We gave him our 10% card and credit card. When he brought the bill back I watched the server glance at the bill and remove the 10% card. I told my husband to check the bill and the 10% was not deducted. The servers comment when questioned was "The 10% isn't on there." He stood there until my husband gave him the evil eye and finally returned with the corrected bill. It was too bad that we ended our vacation frustrated and angry. The lady sitting behind me was watching and told me that she had to ask 3 times for her soup which was her entrée. Overall I'm sure that Charley's is a fine restaurant but next year we'll probably think twice before going.

I came here in 2011 and the food wasn't that great. I went there this week and although the steaks could use some more flavor, the food was great! Our waiter was super attentive and fun! Salad bar is great and has a variety of choices. Will definitely be back because of the great service! The 10% off your order isn't too bad either!

The service was excellent. It's a little more upscale than the other restaurants in the area. The bread was very good. For an appetizer we got the blackened shrimp. Unfortunately the spices completely overwhelmed the shrimp instead of complimenting it. My son said the clam chowder was very good and also very filling. I got the crab stuffed flounder, which was overwhelmed with cream cheese filling, there were no bits of crab, it seems that the crab, if any was creamed into the cream cheese. I was disappointed with that as I expected lumps of crabmeat in the filling. The fish however did taste fresh and yummy, I just scraped off the overwhelming cream cheese. My husband got the blackened catfish, which this time, lacked flavor and could have used more of the blackened seasoning. The key lime pie was AWESOME, best I've ever had. The salad bar was great. The baked and sweet potatoes were also great. I think if I went back I would just stick with the grilled fish, keep is simple to avoid the food being overwhelmed by sauces or spices. Oh and the white wine was served warm. But overall , the meal was good. It was expensive , but tons of food, their huge salad bar comes with the meals, their yummy roles are huge and the key lime is a must, so come hungry! I'm giving it 4 instead of 3 stars because of the large amount of food, the excellent service and the awesome key lime pie.

My family loves this place. The salad bar is my three little 3 boys favorite. I can't get them to stop eating. The prime rib is wonderful. They always cook there meat to perfection. 5 stars+ + +

My wife and I ate at Charley's with friends who live nearby and eat at Charley's often. The salad bar comes with all entrees and defines "good salad bar". Our friends ate the prime rib, which they say is terrific. The wife had the five ounce portion of shrimp scampi with baked sweet potato and I had the five ounce portion of blackened swordfish with rice. It was excellent! We will definitely be back to try other entrees.

Good place to eat on Fort Myers Beach. Great salad bar (and I'm not a huge fan of salad bars!) which comes with your meal, as well as a starch dish. The seafood was good, and we left stuffed. The place has been here for years, and it looks like it. Seems kind of robotic, the way they seat patrons, waitresses/waiters ask the same questions about the orders, "help yourself to the salad bar", and move on to the next. Sort of like an assembly line ............ but if you don't want to travel off the island, this is the place for a good dinner.

Do not be mistaken, this is not an upscale restaurant. It's a casual restaurant with good food. We started with the salad bar - HUGE selection and variety) and found it was surprisingly good. (Salad bars make me nervous, but I gave it a whirl.) Folks at our table had the red snapper, blackened, with wild rice - absolutely delicious! Shrimp and scallops, cajun style, with baked sweet potato - magically delicious! and the grilled salmon with broccoli - very good! Others had the filet and commented on how good it was, as well (I did not try theirs). We ended the meal with a cappuccino - delish! Plan on a dinner here, see what you think! Enjoy!!

Good location, friendly staff. Not cheap, not terribly expensive considering the locale. Tip: Dinner wait is typically 30+ minutes. Put your name in and walk across the street, stroll to the beach, get your feet in the seawater, and walk back. Takes about 30 minutes round trip, and you'll have worked up an appetite, and maybe seen a lovely ocean sunset. Dolphin was on the menu as part of a 3 "fish" sampler platter. A little alarming to see, and, well, dolphin isn't a fish - more like an ocean-going Golden Retriever, but our cute British waitress got the dolphin replaced with shrimp with no problem. Shrimp scampi, stuffed flounder, and (dolphin-free) sampler platter were all excellent. Salad bar was fresh and quite good. We didn't have a chance to try the desserts, but they at least looked good from what we saw.

We went to Charley's Boat House on a Saturday night. We have heard a lot about it and were looking forward to a nice dinner. We were a party of 4 and had to wait about 25 mins as they don't take reservations. Our waiter was not friendly nor helpful. They use tablets for taking orders and he had to re-ask what you ordered several times per person as he didn't seem well versed on the system. One of the people in our party did not get their side and we asked for it and 10 mins. later it still had not come so we had to ask again. I would not recommend it. Our bill was $100 for 4 entrees, no additional drinks or add ons. Save your money and go somewhere else.

We were attracted to Charley's based on their location away from Times Squares and opposite traffic pattern. While the salad bar included a lot of selections, it's hard to eat $14 worth of pasta salads and lettuce. Clam chowder was very good, but cool. Seafood appetizers were marginal at best, but spareribs had great flavor and dropped off the bone easily. We alway appreciate wait staff with a sense of humor, but dismissive is unacceptable. Most entrees were significantly over priced, especially based on the quality of food and service. Our recommendation is to bite the bullet and head to the opposite end of the island.

WAY OVER PRICED!!!!! If u are looking for over priced steak or sea food and a bland salad bar this is the place... Service was not good food was not very good and there are no prices on the menu. That is how they sucker u in. We would not have stayed if they would have had prices on the menu. Not only that we had a dirty bread plate and a dirty water glass. Steak had to be sent back for not being cooked anywhere near how it was ordered. They have a huge dinning room but cramped everyone into the smallest part of the restaurant. For as high priced as their meals are they should have a hell of a lot nicer place then they have.... Thank god we never have to eat there again!!

We were a party of 7. We had reservations for 8:00 we arrived early and had a cocktail in the lounge. We were seated promptly at 8:00. Yes the waiter had a tablet and it took a couple of minutes but he didn't miss anything. In fact he hit a drink by mistake and when it came the person said I didn't order this but it's ok I will take it. He immediately said enjoy ! it was my mistake and it's is off the bill.. That says something. All but one of us switched out the salad bar for the soup ,,, chowder or bisque both very good, most of us got filet with blackened shrimp ... No complaints with them but I chose rice .. Very sticky and mushy The strip steaks were good fair size. My husband got the blackened grouper and he was pleased,

Huge salad bar. We had a great view of a bay canal. Food was decent, but a bit expensive. As they say on their menu, "we've been around for 40 years and only changed a few things". That's about right. Food is good, but not great. Atmospeher is good, but not great.

We came to ft myers beach for a week and we ate here twice! Absolutely delicious! Fabulous salad bar, that comes with every entree. I had crab legs the first time, husband had steak both were excellent. Our second visit we were not as hungry so we just had the salad bar but left very satisfied. Service was great both trips Tyler was wonderful. Well worth the wait.

The most distinguishing thing about Charley's is the salad bar. But only about half of the 55 items are things that you would want to put on a salad, the rest are odd items like green jello, whole scallions, and pieces of fruit. They had a pomogranitini special that I ordered. The drink tasted mainly like red sugar syrup with a splash of alcohol. For dinner, I ordered the grouper, blackened, with wild rice. The grouper arrived, but the seasoning was almost flavorless. I ended up raiding the salad bar for dressings to add some more flavor - I don't know what the waitress thought when she picked up that salad plate. The wild rice was none other than UNCLE BEN'S, which I recognized from making it at home. My husband had the prime rib. It was a good piece of meat, tasted good and was cooked right. The horseradish sauce that came with it was underwhelming. In short, if you get something that just needs to be cooked, like a hunk of meat, it will probably be fine. There's not really a lot of great food on this island, and Charley's is somewhat par for the course, but you can at least spend less somewhere else.

Really 2.5 stars. I've experienced better, but it's definitely OK, too... This place is odd. It can't decide if it's more upscale dining, or a cheesy seafood buffet. Alright, in reality it's the salad bar that's the buffet, but you get my drift. It's a great location bayside, and a lot of the tables are right against a big glass wall of windows that overlook the mangrove-y water. Nice. But the decor is solidly stuck in the 70s (60s, maybe?) and needs some updating. It's the kind of place where you almost expect the waiters to be wearing pirate hats and eye patches. The best part about our meal there was that salad buffet. It's huge. There are a million choices. Appreciated. The menu food was just OK, tho, and no one raved about their meal. I wanted the stone crab -- my heroin, the reason I look forward to January and our annual trip to Fort Myers for 11 months out of the year. But when we got to Charley's, they'd sold out. Technically not their fault, I suppose, but a HUUUUUUGE disappointment for me. I had to fight hard to keep it from ruining my entire evening...I ended up with the Mahi which was fine but nothing special. Others tried the surf and turf, the snapper, the salmon, all with pretty much the same reaction. Fine, but not great. And pretty expensive to boot. Nothing on the menu under $15 (except for the kiddie menu). We were a little disappointed because we'd heard this was THE place to get an upscale meal in Fort Myers, and we're here every winter, so we're always looking for new places to try. We haven't been back since that first time, and we probably won't. If you want upscale (the real kind) try South Beach Grille. And if you want great seafood, try Fish House.

My family has been coming to Fort Myers for the last three winters and we have made it our yearly tradition to go to Charley's (at least once!) every trip! We have never gotten anything that wasn't just short of delicious. Generous portions, awesome salad bar, and the fish is sooooo good. This time I had a crab stuffed flounder that was to die for and I also tried the shrimp and scallops, both blackened and scampi style and both were awesome. I personally preferred the scampi. You can't go wrong with Charley's!

Everything here was fine. Not great, but not bad by any means. Like everyone else, I liked the salad bar. I believe the server said there were over 50 items on the line. It came with each meal, so that was nice. Place was very busy early, not surprisingly, and the waiter did a decent job of handleing his crowd. Wasnt the most friendly guy but ill give him the benefit of the doubt seeing how busy they were. Beer selection is poor, but the seafood was solid. A decent place to eat, but be informed it is way down the road away from the bridge to get to the beach. Plan accordingly, it took us a long time to travel the 3-4 miles to get here.

Party of four on a Sunday evening we were seated immediately. We arrived early enough for the early bird specials which we all ordered from. My father and I ordered salmon, broiled with baked sweet potato and it was very good. Mother ordered baby back ribs and wife ordered flounder. Good marks all around. The salad buffet is huge. It comes with all entrees and is pretty good. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. Good experience all in all. Not a super fancy place but good food nonetheless.

I have been coming here for my birthday for the past 10+ years. It's what I look forward to each time I come down here. The salad bar is to die for and the stuffed flounder and blackened shrimp are amazing! Can't go wrong with this place!

Avoid it at all costs. Ordered the prime rib medium and it was rare to medium rare at best and full, of gristle. Salad bar is bland and looks old. Wife had teriyaki chicken and left it on the plate it was so dry. Waiter barely spoke English and kept making mistakes because he did not understand us. Meanwhile the two girls that were supposed to be greeters ran back and forth like little kids.

Our hotel recommended Charlie's so we thought we would give it a try. As a party of 3 (2 adults and a 4 year old) the hostess told us it would be a 15 minute wait. She then proceeded to seat 3 other parties right as they walked in. We left and went somewhere else to eat. Will not be back.

Charley's has decent food, with one very weird exception: a gigantic salad bar that comes with every meal. I guess it's their schtick, since they've been open for quite some time, but I almost never see salad bars anymore and this threw me for a loop. Don't get me wrong, I love me some bacon bits, but it didn't seem to fit with the rest of our meal. We were seated at a window-side table, despite arriving during dinner rush. The restaurant has great views of the bay side of the island, and flying fish kept us entertained throughout the meal. Our server was very sweet and helpful, and provided great recommendations on the menu. On her suggestion, I ordered the stone crab claws cold. Well - these things are NOT easy to eat. She took them back to the kitchen to have them cracked for me, which helped, but they were still a mess to eat. I can't imagine what I would have done if they were hot! That said, the food was presented simply - nothing to mess with the simple beauty of the claw meat. It was some of the best crab I've ever eaten, and if it weren't such a pain in the ass to eat, I'd probably order it more often. The rest of the menu had plenty of great options: a full page of seafood options (grouper, snapper, mahi mahi, king crab legs, stone crab, scallops, etc) that could be prepared in various ways. There were also several cuts of meat to select from, or they had prime rib. Nothing too fancy, certainly not gourmet - just a good local restaurant serving no frills food. One recommendation: order the baked sweet potato with your meal. They bring cinnamon and brown sugar to your table so you can adjust it to taste, and it was amazingly delicious. We would up not ordering dessert because the potato was so good. Definitely a family-friendly place, good simple food, good prices, low key Florida vibe. The salad bar's a little weird, but it's worth overlooking that to get to the seafood.

This restaurant was our first stop on this vacation. The salad bar was probably the highlight of the entire meal. It was absolutely fresh and delicious. A great variety. Tyler was our server and was outstanding. I had ordered the blackened grouper which was fresh and delicious. The majority of the meals ordered were tasty. The portion sizes of meal were on the small side however the salad bar made up for the difference. Overall this was a great experience for our first restaurant in Fort Myers Beach.
